Biography
Dr. Brunson was born and raised in Upstate New York and spent much of his childhood camping and hiking in the Adirondack mountains, visiting national parks, and exploring the outdoors. His professional and recreational experiences have included conservation and restoration work in the Pacific Northwest, guiding and teaching environmental education in New England, backpacking in the Southwest, and thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Dr. Brunson advocates for the provision of recreational opportunities and infrastructure, and the multitude of benefits they provide to individuals, families, and communities. In his teaching, he encourages students to draw personal meaning from their own recreational experiences and time in the outdoors, empowering them to thoughtfully consider their role in their community and using that empowerment to create positive change around them.
