Plant Science with a Purpose
Light is both an energy source and a signal to plants. These curricular support materials for high school science teachers focus on phenomena associated with light quality that have been aligned with the NGSS. Lessons may augment modules in, for example, Photosynthesis, the Biology of Skin Color (Melanin), or Cell Biology, and serve as a way to introduce careers in controlled-environment horticulture to high school students. Additional resources on robotics, automation, and drones in horticulture are provided. This project was funded by USDA Secondary Education, Two-Year Postsecondary Education, and Agriculture in the K-12 Classroom Challenge Grant (SPECA) Award No. 2017-38414-26963.
