Associate Professor, Extension Turfgrass Specialist, Director of Rocky Ford Turfgrass Research Center
Office: 3604 Throckmorton
Area(s) of Specialization:
Dr. Jared Hoyle grew up on a small family farm in the piedmont of North Carolina. Growing up on the farm, Hoyle developed a passion for wildlife and the outdoors. This passion eventually lead Hoyle to pursue a degree in agriculture.
Hoyle earned his Bachelor of Science in Horticulture Science in 2006 and Master of Science in Crop Science in 2009, both from North Carolina State University. While in North Carolina, Hoyle focused his research on the influence of cultural practices, mainly turfgrass mowing height, on crabgrass and brown patch incidence. Also, he evaluated rating methods that are commonly used in turfgrass weed science.
Continuing his education at Auburn University, Hoyle received his Doctorate in 2012 in Agronomy and Soils. At Auburn University, Hoyle explored factors that influenced thermal weed control. He continued conducting turfgrass research and worked closely with local turfgrass managers as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the University of Georgia.
Dr. Hoyle has the motivation, passion, enthusiasm and commitment to make a very positive impact on the turf/golf course industries in Kansas.
Area of Emphasis
Dr. Hoyle enjoys developing personal and professional relationships with turfgrass managers. These relationships help him focus his research efforts on developing an applied research and extension program to support turfgrass managers across Kansas and the United States. Dr. Hoyle focuses his applied turfgrass research program on cultural and chemical weed management in turfgrass systems and managing/establishing turfgrass with limited water resources.
